Что значит «мэйби» и как появилось в молодежной речи?
Молодежь обожает выкидывать из своего общения «лишние» звуки и буквы, поэтому иногда людей нового поколения понять нелегко. Похожая ситуация произошла со словом «мэйби». Что значит оригинальное заимствование из английского языка и как оно появилось в русском? Насколько адекватно использовать его в повседневном и деловом общении, кто из собеседников вас поймет, а кто – отругает?

Когда не желаете обидеть близкого человека, руководителя или не до конца уверены в своих планах, на вопрос или неявную просьбу ответите: «Может быть». Простенькое словосочетание оставляет пространство для маневра: не давая окончательного согласия, вы с изрядной долей вероятности не откажете. Такое уместно в разговоре с друзьями, если спрашивают:

Как часто можно ввернуть сленговое словечко? Большинство изучало в школе иностранные языки и легко поймет, что значит «мэйби», даже если в быту совершенно не пользуется английским. Иное дело, что заимствование почти неотличимо от классического «может быть» и в рамках литературной речи выглядит дико.
В научных работах или в сочинении вы его не увидите, поскольку такой языковой нормы не существует. А старшее поколение не оценит замены и сочтет подобное поведение либо невоспитанным, либо неразумным, из-за чего отношение к вам окажется не таким благожелательным. Старайтесь подбирать в разговоре те слова, которые человек поймет без дополнительных знаний и расшифровки!
